After a few bars of the swinging ‘Don’t Run Away From My Love’ Jackson Sloan’s powerful, mature and confident vocal power is very evident. Guests, the Metrotones add tasty backing vocals on this and three other cuts. ‘Can’t Find A Way’ and the split-tempo ‘My Chance Has Gone’ are snappier blues numbers. On ‘Same Old Suit’ he duets with Laura B, who sounds a bit like Imelda May. ‘Across The Border’ is Latin-tinged and guest West Weston’s harmonica solo fits perfectly. The sterling cast of crack musicians and guests really impresses and the sound is so authentic it’s hard to believe that it didn’t emanate from yesterday-year. “The Shack Sessions” is an enjoyable collection that may leave you wanting more.
