Mike Garner is a prominent New Zealand blues musician, having worked with Doug McLeod and Jo Ann Kelley. “40 Below Blues” is Garner’s first CD since 2011’s “Why A Woman Gets The Blues”. The new album sees a return to his first influences, the old time country blues that drew him into the music. It’s largely a solo acoustic album with two guests. Locating a love of the blues genre 40 degrees below the equator makes a statement that blues music connects with all cultures, however geographically distant from its origins in the southern states of the USA. “40 Below Blues” is an album of strong and thoughtful tunes played with a delicate touch. Mike’s songwriting rates at the top and these tunes will tempt you.
