“Little Black Heart “is the new album from Ruby Dee and The Snakehandlers, and listening to it is reward enough. However, it seems even better when you realize that Ruby Dee was in an accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury. Despite that, she wrote the songs on an album that is impressive in any case. Dee shows repeatedly that she can carry a tune that rocks. She also shows that she can do pretty well with a ballad. Throughout the album the band moves easily between swing, rockabilly, and country. This is one of those rare albums where every song is good. Dee's vocals are perfect and she shows real talent as a singer and songwriter. If you're a fan of rockabilly from Johnny Cash to Brian Setzer, you'll enjoy this album.
