One of an elite group of Rockabilly bands to achieve major commercial success, The Polecats were snapped up by Mercury Records in the early 1980's to rival the Stray Cats who were racing up the charts. Their first major label release - a revved up version of David Bowie's 'John I'm Only Dancing') was an immediate success and soon hit the top 30 - resulting in The Polecats making numerous TV appearances (including Top Of The Pops) and being splashed all over magazines like Smash Hits, Record Mirror etc. Their flamboyant image was added to their tendency to opt for covering songs which would never be considered by other Rockabilly bands.
