Born in South Louisiana, guitarist, singer, and harmonica player Joe Richardson declares,"I'm the Medicine Man" right in the opening track and mixes the corresponding percussion into his Texas blues. Richardsons vocals are insightful, with a ring of colorful narrative and his guitar playing is unmistakably rooted in blues rock, but it is nuanced rather than a display of raw power. His riffs are mainly heavy, as are his grooves; Richardson basically has little in common with the high-speed crowd, but he gets a good roar out of his strings just the same. The band sees its calling to be closer to twelve bar blues than arena rock and they are rolling on the right track.
